WATCH: Ben McLemore and Ray McCallum get pranked by Sacramento Kings teammates
Hazing. It comes with the territory of being an NBA rookie. Every first year player goes through it because there’s no escaping the league’s initiation process. After all, the NBA is one of the most exclusive fraternities in all of professional sports.
Ben McLemore and Ray McCallum thought they were getting out of their first seasons scot-free. After all, they followed protocol throughout the year sporting their elementary school girl backpacks after each and every game. But, leave it to their Sacramento Kings’ teammates to pull the biggest prank on the two rookies in the final week of the season.
Prior to last Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, McLemore and McCallum’s teammates filled up the two rookie players’ cars with fresh batches of popcorn. From the trunk to the glove compartment, both rookies’ cars were left in a buttery, hot mess.
To make matters worst for McCallum and McLemore, their ordeal was documented for the world to see. Check the video below to see how the Kings’ pair of rookie guards reacted to the prank.

This is a prank that’s caught on around the league in recent years, but one of the first documented cases happened in Sacramento. Six seasons ago, veteran Jason Thompson fell victim to the popcorn prank after failing to bring fresh bagels and cream cheese to practice for his teammates.
The life of an NBA rookie. Not always something to envy.
