Video: Donté Greene on Goon Squad Classic and NBA Lockout

With a 5 pm EST deadline looming, the NBA may be on the verge of implosion (for the umpteenth time it seems, I’ve lost count).  But on the bright-side, the Goon Squad Classic tips off Sunday, November 20th at the UC Davis Pavilion, with tickets going on sale this Thursday.  News 10′s Ryan Yamamoto caught up with Sacramento Kings forward Donté Greene to discuss the latest in the NBA labor negotiations and his charity exhibition game.

Excerpts:

  • Kevin Durant may or may not play in the GSC.  The Oklahoma City Thunder Forward is scheduled to appear in another charity game in Houston that same day.  Greene says Durant may also be heading overseas.  “Kevin Durant may be going overseas, we don’t know yet.  But if he leaves after the 20th, Kevin Durant will definitely be here.”
  • Who will coach the two teams?  “We really haven’t decided the coaches yet.  We would have loved to have Bobby Jackson come out.  But with the rules and everything, he’s not allowed to come out.  We’re talking to Ticha…Ticha Penicheiro from the Monarchs, trying to get her to come out and be a coach.  And trying to get the old guy Francisco (Garcia), come out and be a coach.”
  • Regarding the NBA Lockout – Donté says he would like to get out to a few meetings himself in the near future.  His gut tells him games will resume in December.

General admission tickets for the GSC will be priced at $25, lower-level seating will be $50, and floor seats will cost $70.  A portion of the proceeds will go to the Save Ourselves Foundation for Breast Cancer, Sacramento Food & Clothing Bank, Crocker Riverside, 4th “R”, and Shriners Hospital for Children.
