DeMarcus Cousins comes up short, misses out on the 2012 US Olympic Games in London

As expected, Kings third year center DeMarcus Cousins came up short for an Olympic bid when the team was announced this evening.  Cousins was a member of the Select Team, but due to injuries to NBA big men LaMarcus Aldridge, Chris Bosh and Andrew Bynum, there was small glimmer of hope that he could still be added to the team that will fight for gold in London this summer. Team USA will enter the tournament with only one center, Tyson Chandler of the New York Knicks.  The Clippers Blake Griffin and Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves are the only true power forwards on the roster, but LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony will probably see time in the post as well. "We feel our pool is deep," Coach Mike Kzyzewski said during the live announcement show this afternoon on NBATV.  "The guys in the pool have equity.  Most of them have been either Olympic Champions or World Champions and we're just going to adjust the style of play to try to counter-act the bigness of a couple of the international teams that we have to face." ... Cowbell Kingdom Podcast Ep 39: Rafe Bartholomew of Grantland on Filipino Mogul Manny Pangilinan

by Jonathan Santiago and James Ham
Who is Manny Pangilinan?  Rafe Bartholomew of Grantland and author of Pacific Rims, a book on the history of the Philippines love affair with the game of basketball, joins us on the Cowbell Kingdom Podcast to shed some light on the wealthy Filipino business magnate. An excerpt from the conversation where Bartholomew discussed the All-Star Weekend that featured Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, Derrick Rose and Tyreke Evans that Pangilinan organized for the Philippines last summer.
That was something that when I first heard they were planning I said it's never going to happen.  It just costs too much money, it's too crazy - it sounded like spin to me.  And then when it happened, it flipped the script on everyone where it's like "Wow, they really do have the money to pull off a lot more that we thought that they were willing to do." So it made something like buying a team suddenly seem not so crazy and perhaps overpaying for one.  Because if you look at the way they sort of justified spending all that money on that NBA All-Star Weekend in the Philippines it was because...literally people were calling M.V.P. a hero because he got Kobe Bryant and got him to play in a real game...That sort of goodwill definitely transfers over to M.V.P.'s brands.
