Three questions to ponder
1. How will the Kings defense hold up against a talented Warriors squad?
The Kings have been preaching a new commitment to defense all preseason. So far so good. The Kings allowed 96 points in the opener and 100 against the Trail Blazers on Monday, but those are solid numbers when you consider the pace of the game. Coach Keith Smart has implemented a grading system to enforce accountability and the Kings should improve as they become more familiar with each other. Golden State is chalked full of scorers and they love the up-tempo game. The Kings will need to get stops in crunch time if they hope to go 3-0.
2. Will Cousins continue to roll through the opposition?
Be it Marcin Gortat or rookie Meyers Leonard, there has been no stopping the Kings big man so far. Cousins looks primed for a breakout season. Rookie Festus Ezeli draws the short straw tonight at the Train. The defensive-minded, Nigerian-born Jesuit High grad is big, tough and strong. If he can stay out of foul trouble, things might get interesting.
3. Will Harrison Barnes leave the Kings wondering “what if?”
For the second straight game, the Kings will face a rookie that they passed on in the 2012 NBA Draft. The Warriors were more than happy to take North Carolina’s Harrison Barnes with the seventh pick and if summer league was any indication, they’ve found their small forward of the future and present. Barnes is averaging 11.8 points on 51-percent shooting in his first four games as a pro.
