Former Sacramento King Brian Grant featured in Parkinson’s Disease special
The local PBS affiliate will air “Living With Parkinson’s” on Wednesday, June 25 at 7 pm. According to KVIE, the show will “examine how Parkinson’s Disease is now approached with a new perspective, thanks to doctors, researchers and patients who are driving the science.” Along with others who struggle with the disease, ex-Kings forward Brian Grant, who was diagnosed with the condition in 2008, will be prominently featured in the special.
Grant was diagnosed with the condition just two years after he retired from the NBA. He had a successful NBA career that began in Sacramento when he was selected with the eighth overall pick. He went on to enjoy stints with the Portland Trail Blazers, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns before calling it a career in 2006. In 12 NBA seasons, Grant averaged 10.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 28.3 minutes per game.
Since learning of his condition, Grant has shifted the work of his foundation “to empower those impacted by Parkinson’s to live active and fulfilling lives.” Grant recently returned to Sacramento to bring awareness to the disease when the Kings hosted the Los Angeles Lakers this past April.
