DeMarcus Cousins wants to get the call when Team USA selects its roster for this year’s World Championships team that will compete in Spain.  The Sacramento Kings starting center is one of 28 players in the USA Basketball pool competing for a spot on the Men’s Senior National Team.

“I can bring athleticism in the paint, rebounds and high energy,” Cousins said in an interview with “I am a competitor and I want to help the team keep winning titles. One of my dreams is to win gold medals with my country.”

The 23-year-old center faces stiff competition to make this year’s World Championship roster.  LaMarcus Aldridge, Andre Drummond, Tyson Chandler, Dwight Howard, Anthony Davis and Blake Griffin are some of the players that Cousins will compete against for a spot on this summer’s team. All-Star forwards Kevin Love and Kevin Durant have already committed to playing in the event which takes place in Madrid, Spain.

Cousins will participate in Team USA’s four-day mini camp taking place in Las Vegas late next month.  Team USA will likely reduce its roster to 12-15 players following the mini camp before heading off to additional training camps in Chicago, New York and Gran Canaria, Spain.

“I am looking forward to the training camp to show what I can do,” he said to “Everyone wants to be on the final roster and I am going to do my best in order to convince the coach to select me in the team that is going to defend the world title. I want to be one of the 12 players who are going to Spain.”

The World Championships begin in Madrid on Aug. 30 and conclude on Sep. 14.  Team USA will open up action in Bilabao’s Group C against Turkey, the Dominican Republic, New Zealand, Finland and Ukraine.
