The TrueHoop Network has once again run his annual mock draft and the verdict is in. With the seventh pick of 2013 THN Mock Draft, Cowbell Kingdom selects Trey Burke out of the University of Michigan on behalf of the Sacramento Kings. Here’s why:
Burke wasn’t my first choice, but with C.J. McCollum off the board at no. 6, I felt like he was the best player available. Burke’s game reminds me a lot of Isaiah Thomas’ game, but he has better size. They are both “gamers”, which is something I look for when choosing a floor general. Passing on Anthony Bennett was tough. He very well could be this generation’s Larry Johnson, but I’m not a huge fan of undersized power forwards with a history of injury problems. Burke will be a solid rotational player for a long time. This isn’t a star studded draft, but there is quality and I’m not sure that the Kings are the team that should be gambling with another top ten lottery pick.
