Jimmer’s getting hitched, Thornton has options and Cisco plays for Team DR

There is very little Kings related news to pass on about the off-season/lockout at this point.  We are working on a few things, but until they materialize, here are a couple of crumbs to chew on. Jimmer Fredette has proposed to Whitney Wonnacott and she has accepted.  How do we know this?  ... More

Basketball 101 anyone?

We have done our fair share of covering youth basketball camps for Kings players so far this summer.  You've seen Jimmer bury 60-footers surrounded by kids wearing Get Jimmered shirts.  On Monday, Tyreke sat for an interview over at Hardwood Palace, while young campers toiled in the background.  ... Your morning cup o’ Kings: Jimmer wins big at the ESPYs

More of a quick hitter than a cup o' Kings this morning, but last night at the ESPYs, Jimmer Fredette took home yet another major award.  This time around it was the ESPY for Best Male College Athlete to go along with a mountain of other awards, including the AP National Player of the Year and the ... Jimmer Fredette comes to Lake Tahoe

With no basketball in sight, the Sacramento Kings' new prize possession, Jimmer Fredette, has turned to a new sport.  The Kings can't call Jimmer or even sell his soon to be golden number seven jersey until he is under contract, which can't happen until after the lockout ends.  So what is a locked out 22-year-old, soon to be millionaire do?  Play in celebrity golf tournaments, I guess. Known as one of the toughest celebrity tournaments to get an invitation to, the American Century Championship (ACC) touts an impressive roster of sport and entertainment superstars.  "It's an honor, it really is, to be there playing with some of the best athletes of all time, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley" Fredette said.  "Aaron Rodgers is going to be there.  I think Tony Romo.  A lot of guys who are pretty good at golf and enjoy it and are unbelievable athletes.  I'm just looking forward to going out there and being able to meet these guys." Mayor’s office announces “Citizen Architect Initiative”

At a 10am press conference this morning, the Think Big Sacramento council announced a new and exciting way for the impassioned citizens of the greater Sacramento area to get involved in the building of the new Entertainment and Sports Complex (ESC).  In the past, the focus has been on blue ribbon groups of political and business leaders.  This new campaign is looked at as an extension of the grass roots efforts of groups like Here We Stay and Here We Build, turning to regular citizens for help in educating the masses.
“The new complex will offer hundreds of amenities and opportunities for people from all walks of life,” said Mayor Kevin Johnson. “But, it will only happen if we engage the interest, imagination and participation of citizens from every corner of our region.”

Petrie and Westphal on the J.J. Hickson/Omri Casspi trade

Steven Chea/CK

The Sacramento Kings called a press conference early today to announce the acquisition of J.J Hickson from the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Omri Casspi and a future first round pick.  Here are the highlights of that news conference: Geoff Petrie, Sacramento Kings President of Basketball Operations:
  • On Hickson: "It was a chance to acquire a young player that's already proven himself to a pretty decent level in the league and strengthening our roster.  There's still a lot of upside there.  Some of the players that were just taken in the draft a week ago aren't a whole lot younger than J.J. and he's had three years in the league and been more productive each year.  It really falls, I think, mostly under the category of just improving the quality of your roster overall."
  • On the nexus of this trade: "We were having conversations with Cleveland prior to the draft and even somewhat during the draft and it just didn't seem to work. But they continued on here.  In order to accomplish this trade today, both teams had to waive physicals and reporting in order to get it complete today."
  • On the financial implications: "The other thing about this trade - it does not, again, significantly impact our salary cap room going forward at all.  So when we get to free agency, we'll still be basically in the same position.  We have to go and make other additions to the roster."
  • On Casspi: "Omri has had some pretty good stretches himself as a player and we wanted to make sure we could get fair value for him if we ever did move him."
