2011 NBA Draft day is upon us, analysis and recap of events

It all began All-Star Weekend when NBA commissioner David Stern gently picked up the Sacramento Kings and placed them on the tracks of the craziest roller coaster ride known to man.  For months, the ride went up and down, side to side, splashing through pools of water, until a reprieve of sorts brought the ride to an abrupt halt.  While plenty of fans were able to get off and take a break, the hardcore fan couldn't quite lift the hand rail and got locked in for another turnaround. That turn?  Draft season. We've done our best to bring you top notch draft coverage through prospect profiles, podcasts with some of the most relevant guests and mock drafts from a variety of sources, so here is a recap. ... Cowbell Kingdom Prospect Profile: Local Boys, Andrew Goudelock and Co.

Left: Mark Payne, Right: Kevin Galloway

Two local kids were the center of attention for media at today's draft workout at the Kings practice facility.  But it was Andrew Goudelock of Charleston who stood out of the final group of six to come through Sacramento.  Along with Goudelock was Sacramento's Kevin Galloway of Texas Southern and Stockton's Mark Payne of UC Davis.   Also participating was Spanish small forward Xavi Rabaseda and guards Jacob Pullen of Kansas State and Julyan Stone of UTEP.  Goudelock has a chance of being drafted as a late first to second round pick, but the rest of these prospects are fighting for their basketball lives. Cowbell Kingdom Draft Profile: Matt Howard, David Lighty and co.

Left - David Lighty, Right - Matt Howard

With draft season winding down, the another group of six came in Monday to show the Kings brass what they have to offer.  Highlighting the group was a Matt Howard of the two time runner-up Butler Bulldogs and David Lighty of Ohio State.  For the first time this draft season, all six players were seniors, which certainly helped the structured level of competition on the floor.  Joining Howard and Lighty were guards D.J. Gay and Corey Fisher, swingman Gilbert Brown and the long armed Papa Dia. Videos and analysis after the jump. ... More

Cowbell Kingdom Prospect Profile: Alec Burks, Klay Thompson and Co.

Left - Klay Thompson, Right - Alec Burks

Another day, another six.  At their training facility today, the Kings matched-up Alec Burks and Klay Thompson, the two highest-rated shooting guards in the 2011 NBA Draft.  This wasn't the first time these two have worked out against each other in a pre-draft workout, but it was the first time the Kings had two lottery-bound prospects who play the same position go head-to-head.  Burks and Thompson headlined a group that also included small forwards Ravern Johnson and Jamine Peterson, as well as big men Greg Smith and Alex Stepheson. Cowbell Kingdom Prospect Profile: Kawhi and Co.

Left - Kawhi Leonard, Right - Scotty Hopson

There's been a seismic belief shift on what could happen when the Kings pick next Thursday.  A week ago, Kawhi Leonard looked like a lock to fill the Kings' gaping hole at small forward.  That all changed when BYU's Jimmer Fredette rolled into town and turned heads.  Today was Leonard's chance to bring wandering eyes back his way. Leonard must show that he is the complete package and a true upgrade over Omri Casspi, Francisco Garcia and Donté Greene.  There is no doubt the Kings like Leonard (they have sent scouts to visit him at least three times).  But with Jimmermania sweeping Sacramento, can Kawhi make the impact he needs to get back into the mix at pick number seven? The Kings brought in an eclectic group of players of varying shapes and sizes.  Apparently, the Kings front office wanted to see Leonard perform against a variety of players.  Of the other players in town today, only Scotty Hopson is projected to be drafted.
