Due to some scheduling conflicts, I didn't go to the Kings first pre-season game last night. But there are a few people who did and did a fine job recapping the action. So check out the highlights and then the links after the jump:...

Westphal on Marcus Landry: "Right now, I think he's fit in to what the job description at that position calls for better than anyone else and he's earned it through ...
I have a friend who played a huge role in my taking on this role of beat blogger. After first interviewing Hassan Whiteside and then Jason Thompson, this friend (and loyal reader) asked who was next. Out of gratitude for his encouraging me to try something that has taken me down a magical rabbit hole, I told him that the next one was his choice. I never thought he would ask for DeMarcus Cousins. You see, I am still learning the ropes with this interviewing gig and well, honestly, Cousins is way above my pay grade. The 6-11, 290-pound twenty-year-old is a riddle wrapped up in an enigma. He is post graduate work and I am still trying to get out of freshman interviews 101. Nonetheless, being a man of my word, here is The Purple Panjandrum with DeMarcus Cousins....
From Jason Jones:What Whiteside doesn't like is his injured knee. He won't play in tonight's exhibition opener against Phoenix. Whiteside said being injured isn't something he's used to."I've never been hurt," he said. "I missed my first practice the other day in my life. That was pretty crazy."
It's probably not a ...

Donald Sloan at media day.
We already broke the news regarding the J.R. Giddens and Donald Sloan being waived as well as the injury updates for Dalembert (out), Jackson (questionable to doubtful), Whiteside (out) and Jeter (questionable). Practice looked a lot thinner without all of these players and certainly, the lack of front court depth played a major role in who was cut and who wasn't today. Congratulations Connor Atchley, you live to fight another day. Here are the camp noted from today:...
This is the second installment of The Purple Panjandrum's pre-season interview series. Sacramento Kings third year power forward/center took time to answer some questions following practice this week.

JT sit's down with The Purple Panjandrum.
Tell me a little bit about your role with the Las Vegas summer league team. I know you didn't play but you were there with the team the whole time?JT:
Yeah, I didn't have to play this time, I played my first two years. It's good to always be supportive, I feel like of us core guys, even though we weren't playing, but just to be there, be there at practice at times, it's good to just have some continuity. And my little brother (Ryan Thompson) was playing there as well, and now he is in training camp with the Utah Jazz.TPP:
After summer league, you went to play in a big man camp, how did that go?JT:
It was good, me and Hassan Whiteside went there and I had gone there my rookie year as well. It's Grgurich's
camp, he's an assistant coach for the Nuggets, and it's good. A lot of drill and it's not just a big man camp, there are a lot of swingmen and guards. We do drills, full-court and we get to play pick-up games as well. It keeps you in shape and you know, it's a good city there in Las Vegas....
